Isolation
projects
During lockdown, I have been setting myself short projects that I can create and edit in a day. This is intended to keep my creativity alive during the Covid-19 Crisis, which most days I have really struggled with. Here are some of the outcomes.
The Marcel Mauss game – Is it an art object?
For 3 or more players.
Can be played together or remotely.
1. Find 5 objects
‘collect everything, including what is easily collected’ (Marcel Mauss 2007:70)
2. Take each object individually and perform these tasks:
‘...ask the informant whether they are beautiful’(2007:70)
‘Study carefully all the circumstances surrounding each object . . . where, who, when, in what capacity, for whom, for what purpose’ (2007:70)
3. Decide whether the object is an art object or not
‘An art object is by definition an object recognised as such by the group’ (2007:70).
